Xiaomi today unveiled its new Redmi Y1 series in India, which are re-branded Redmi Note 5A series smartphone for India. The Redmi Y1 comes with a price tag of Rs. 8,999 for the 3GB RAM variant while the 4GB RAM option has been priced at Rs. 10,999. The Redmi Y1 Lite has just one variant priced at Rs. 6,999. Both will come in gold and grey color options.
Both phones are Amazon exclusives and will also be available on Mi.com, going on sale starting November 8th at 12 PM. Offline, you will be able to buy the new Redmi Y series from Mi Homes, Mi Preferred partner stores along with Reliance Digital stores. Starting with the Redmi Y1 and Redmi Y1 lite, all of the company's smartphones would be available from offline retail stores mentioned above as well.
Coming to specs, both phones come with a 5.5-inch HD IPS display with 1280x720 pixels resolution protected by Corning Gorilla Glass. Both also come with a 13MP f/2.2 rear camera which also features phase-detection autofocus (PDAF), and LED flash. Moreover, both the Redmi Y1 smartphones also have dedicated microSD card slot and SIM slots.
The Redmi Y1 features a 16-megapixel selfie camera with wide f/2.0 aperture and a 76.4-degree wide-angle lens. It runs on the Qualcomm Snapdragon 435 mobile platform with either 3GB or 4GB RAM combined with 32GB or 64GB internal storage which is expandable up to 128GB. It has a rear facing fingerprint sensor, and an IR blaster as well.
While the Redmi Y1 Lite features a 1.4GHz quad-core Snapdragon 425 processor with Adreno 308 GPU, 2GB RAM and 16GB of storage which is expandable up to 128GB via a dedicated microSD card slot. It has a 5-megapixel front camera for selfies with f/2.0 aperture.
Both phones run on MIUI 8 based on Android 7.0 Nougat, but would be getting stable MIUI 9 in mid-November. Connectivity options include dual-SIM 4G VoLTE support, WiFi b/g/n, GPS, 3.5mm headphone jack, micro USB port for charging. You have a 3080 mAh non-removable battery on both.
