Xiaomi has started sending media invites for an event on September 5 to launch a new smartphone with flagship level dual camera setup. Even a company official confirmed that they will be releasing the first dual camera phone in India.
While speculation has been ripe that the company may bring the Xiaomi Mi 6 to India, according to our sources, we actually may see the Xiaomi Mi 5X with MIUI 9 making its India debut.
The Mi 5X was recently launched in China with a dual camera setup, of which one has a larger aperture. The media invite shows the one sensor of the dual camera setup has a wider aperture.
Just to give you a brief on specs, the Mi 5X sports a 5.5-inch full HD LTPS display. Underneath the hood, the smartphone sports a 64-bit Snapdragon 625 SoC clocked at 2 GHz coupled with 4 GB RAM. The Mi 5X is the first phone that would run MIUI 9 with Android 7.0 Nougat out of the box.
Moreover, this dual-SIM device packs in 64 GB of onboard storage, which can further be expanded up to 128 GB using an external SD card. The company has included all the connectivity options as well including dual-band WiFi, Bluetooth 4.2 as well as GPS.
The main highlight of Mi 5X is its dual camera setup. On the back, it sports two 12 MP sensors (one telephoto and another wide angle). The 50mm telephoto lens enables 2X optical zoom similar to the iPhone 7 Plus. In the front, you get a 5MP front facing camera. All this is powered by a 3080 mAh battery which is non-removable.
In China, the Mi 5X is available at a price of CNY 1,499 (around Rs. 14200), so we can expect that it will be launched at a sub Rs. 15,000 price point in India as well. We will be bringing in live updates from the Mi 5X India launch event, stay tuned for updates on September 5th.
