Sharp has launched its latest flagship smartphones the AQUOS R8 and AQUOS R8 Pro in the 2023 summer lineup in Japan as the successor of last year’s AQUOS R7. The AQUOS R8 has a 6.39-inch FHD+ IGZO OLED display with 1Hz-240Hz adaptive refresh rate, while the AQUOS R8 Pro has a 6.6-inch WUXGA+ IGZO OLED display with 1Hz-240Hz adaptive refresh rate, Dolby Vision support, and Qualcomm 3D Sonic Max in-display ultrasonic fingerprint sensor, but R8 has normal In-display fingerprint scanner.
Both phones run on the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor with up to 12GB RAM, 256GB of UFS 4.0 storage. The R8 Pro has the same 47.2MP rear camera with a 1-inch image sensor and a Summicron lens jointly developed with Leica. The processing speed for HDR shooting has been improved by approximately 40% compared to our previous models, as per the company. There is a dedicated mode for starry skies and fireworks. In addition, the AI engine, which has improved subject recognition accuracy, captures pets that move around actively.
The AQUOS R8 has a 50.3MP rear camera with a 1/1.55 inch image sensor and a lens “Hector” supervised by Leica. The phone also has military grad MIL-STD-810G/MIL-STD-810H standards. Both phones support IPX5/IPX8/IP6X ratings for dust and water resistance. The R8 is powered by a 4,570mAh battery, while the R8 Pro has a 5000mAh battery, and both support fast battery charging.

Availability -
The Sharp AQUOS R8 and R8 Pro will be available from July 2023 on local carriers NTT Docomo and Softbank and other retailers in Japan. Pricing will be announced closer to the launch.
