Samsung phosphorescent OLED panels launch 2025.

Samsung is anticipated to introduce a novel type of blue phosphorescent OLED panel in 2025, deviating from the initially expected debut in 2024, according to The Elec. The progress of the new material for the blue sub-pixels seems to be encountering challenges.

In 2025, Samsung plans to incorporate innovative blue phosphorescent OLED panels. Presently, Samsung's display technology utilizes phosphorescent green and red sub-pixels, while the blue diodes still employ fluorescent technology. Consequently, labeling them as PHOLED is not technically accurate. The newly developed phosphorescent diodes boast 100% internal luminous efficiency, a significant improvement compared to the 25% cap of the current blue fluorescent ones.

The successful development of blue phosphorescent diodes by Samsung could substantially enhance power efficiency. However, a notable drawback is the relatively shorter lifespan of the blue phosphorescent diodes, approximately 55% of that of the fluorescent counterparts. This significant limitation has led some individuals familiar with the matter to express doubts about Samsung's ability to incorporate this technology into commercial products by 2025.

Nevertheless, Samsung remains committed to its research and development endeavors, aiming to become the first manufacturer to mass-produce PHOLED panels. This strategic move could potentially provide Samsung with a significant market advantage in the years to come.
