Sachin Tendulkar has just endorsed an IoT (Internet of Things) firm from India by investing an undisclosed amount in the start-up, Smartron India and becoming its brand ambassador as well.

The Bengaluru based Smartron India Private Limited has been in operation since August 2014, but in stealth mode and now the company is ready for prime time with several smart devices for both consumer and enterprise segments, first of which will be seen later in Q1 FY 2016-17.

Smartron India is headed by Founder and Chairman, Mahesh Lingareddy who is also the co-founder and CEO of Soft Machines Inc., a company based in the US with operations in US, India and Russia. The company is focusing on bringing smart devices to the mainstream, with the push towards IoT. With path-breaking developments in the field of robotics, big data and artificial intelligence, its clear that more and more companies, including Smartron would be focusing on what's next to augment human existence.

Speaking about his association with Smarton, Tendulkar said:

I have always been fascinated by technology. Smartron's founding vision for the need for a robust product ecosystem in the country to grow is very impressive. We need to support brands that are 'designed and engineered in India' by our Entrepreneurs and Engineers that ably compete in the global markets. I look forward to being part of the growth journey of Smartron buoyed by tremendous growth opportunities offered by IoT worldwide.

Lingareddy too had some kind words to share about the association with the cricket legend:

We are very excited and privileged to have Sachin join us in our journey. He is one of the greatest Indian stories of our times, a true global icon and brand that disrupted the game of cricket, and inspired generations.

Smartron also plans to forey into smartphones and has recently partnered with Foxconn to manufacture devices. The company may get into high-end smartphones and also plans to make Windows PCs, hybrid devices in the later part of the year. We will be keeping a lookout as how the home-grown company develops in the future.
