The other Nokia, which was not part of the Microsoft deal, has just announced an Android 5.0 Lollipop running tablet. The Nokia N1 comes with a 7.9-inch (2048x1536 pixels) display, 2.3 GHz 64-bit quad-core Intel Atom Z2380 processor with PowerVR G6430 GPU, 2 GB RAM, 32 GB internal storage and a 5300 mAh battery all encased in aluminium. It has been priced at $249 which brings in at a hair under Rs. 15,400.

Nokia N1 Specs and Photos

The Nokia N1 runs Android Lollipop with an almost stock experience apart from the launcher, which is now the Z Launcher also made by Nokia. There's a 8 MP camera at the back and a 5 MP front selfie-shooter. The design of the N1 is quite similar to the new iPad Mini and it comes with a reversible USB port at the bottom. There are 0.5 watt speakers at the bottom with Wolfson WM8958E audio codec for better sound fidelity.

Nokia has actually not made the N1 Android tablet, but has just licensed its brand name and provided the design to Foxconn. Nokia, according to its contract with Microsoft, cannot made consumer hardware till 2016, therefore it will license its name to any product from OEM's that match the quality and design of the erstwhile Nokia devices.

Its a cheeky move but with solid potential gains to keep the Nokia name from fading into the sunset. Microsoft will rebrand its next Lumia devices to Microsoft Lumia and Nokia's reign in the Windows Phone kingdom will come to an end. Therefore, with the N1 tablet, Nokia is taking a bold step into resurrection as a consumer brand.
