Android One smartphones are going to get Lollipop update as soon as mid-December. Google launched three Android One smartphones in India as its initiative to provide affordable smartphones. The Micromax Canvas A1, Spice Dream UNO and Karbonn Sparkle V were launched a few months back with the promise to revolutionize the entry-level segment, but the project failed to get the impetus it needed.
The lack of marketing and differentiating factor in these smartphones alongwith stiff competition from Motorola, Asus and Xiaomi made it even more difficult for Android One smartphones to fly. Moreover, we have now heard from Spice Mobility CEO, Prashant Bindal, that they are planning to update the Dream UNO by January 2015, which completely kills the only USP of these devices.
Google promised that Android One smartphones like Nexus devices will be the first ones to get Android updates. But with a mid-December update schedule which might even be pushed to next year things aren't looking good for the Android One project.
