HUAWEI has officially launched the world's first tri-fold screen smartphone in the Mate series, the Mate XT | Ultimate Design in China, following earlier teasers. The device features a 6.4-inch FHD+ display when folded, a 7.9-inch 2K screen when partially unfolded, and expands into a 10.2-inch tablet with a 3K display when fully opened. Remarkably, when fully opened, it measures just 3.6mm in thickness.
The Mate XT utilizes an LTPO OLED screen with 1440 Hz high-frequency PWM dimming and a maximum touch sampling rate of 240 Hz. The screen is crafted from multi-directional bending flexible materials, offering 25% more resistance to bending than traditional foldable devices. According to HUAWEI, the inner fold is designed to resist compression, while the outer fold withstands tension.
The device also boasts a composite ultra-tough laminated structure, utilizing non-Newtonian fluid and the industry's largest UTG (Ultra-Thin Glass) for enhanced durability. This combination provides double the impact resistance, ensuring reliable protection.
In terms of photography, the Mate XT is equipped with XMAGE imaging technology, featuring a 50MP 1/1.56″ main camera with a variable aperture ranging from f/1.4 to f/4.0, a 12MP ultra-wide-angle lens, and a 12MP 5.5x periscope telephoto lens. Additionally, there is an 8MP camera located inside the device.
It is Powered by a 5600mAh silicon-carbon battery, noted by HUAWEI as the world's thinnest at only 1.9mm thick. It supports 66W wired fast charging and 50W wireless charging. Although the SoC hasn't been confirmed, it's expected to use the Kirin 9000 chipset. HUAWEI also introduced a foldable touch keyboard that can pair with the Mate XT, providing a desktop PC-like experience.
