Google just launched its latest flagship smartphones the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro in the Global Market including in India, as they promised. The Pixel 8 is equipped with a more compact 6.2-inch FHD+ OLED display, which now boasts a 120Hz refresh rate and 42% higher peak brightness compared to its predecessor. Google has dubbed this display the "Actua display."
On the other hand, the Pixel 8 Pro features a larger 6.7-inch Quad HD+ OLED display with a variable refresh rate ranging from 1Hz to 120Hz. This display offers a remarkable 60% increase in peak brightness up to 2400 nits over its predecessor, and Google refers to it as the "Super Actua display." Additionally, the phone includes a temperature sensor.
The Pixel 8 Pro sports a refined aluminum frame and a matte glass back, while the Pixel 8 showcases sleek metal finishes and a polished glass back. Both smartphones run on the latest Google Tensor G3 processor with 5G SA/NSA support, Titan M2 Security chip, up to 12GB RAM, and up to 1TB UFS 3.1 storage. Operating on Android 14, they are set to receive Android and security updates for a remarkable 7-year duration, ensuring updates up to Android 21.
Both phones come with a 50-megapixel camera, and the Pixel 8 incorporates a 12-megapixel ultrawide lens. Both now include an autofocus ultrawide camera with macro capabilities, while the Pixel 8 introduces a novel 48MP ultrawide sensor. Furthermore, the Pixel 8 Pro is equipped with a 48MP telephoto camera that offers 5x optical zoom and an impressive 30x digital zoom.
In addition, several new features have been introduced, such as Best Take, Magic Editor, and Audio Magic Eraser. The Dual Exposure technology enhances video quality by reducing graininess and sharpening videos in challenging lighting conditions. The Pixel 8 Pro incorporates Video Boost, harnessing the Tensor G3 and the computational photography models from Google's data centers to bring HDR+ video to life. Additionally, Night Sight Video is introduced for the first time on the Pixel. Both of these features will be made available for the Pixel 8 Pro in the December feature update.
With Pro Controls on the Pixel 8 Pro, you now have the ability to manually tweak focus, shutter speed, ISO, white balance, exposure, and shadow brightness controls. Additionally, a new Pro setting enables you to capture 50MP photos across the entire zoom range. It's worth noting that while you make these fine adjustments with Pro Controls, Google assures that all of Pixel's HDR+ computational photography capabilities remain fully operational.
