At its hardware filled launch event, the company also announced the Google Home Max - a large version of its Home smart speaker to take on Sonos. The Home Max is a stereo speaker with dual 4.5-inch Sub-woofers, and twin tweeters covered by a fabric speaker grill.
According to Google, the Home Max adapts to your environment, the content that is being played, and your preferences. With Smart Sound, the speaker automatically adjusts output based on where it is placed. If you move the speaker, it re-orients the sound in just a few seconds. Moreover, it also adjusts the sound level based on the noise in the environment, or whether you are listening to a song, a podcast or a phone call.
Consider that you have a dishwasher running in the kitchen and you ask for a recipe, the Home Max will increase the volume automatically so that the recipe is more audible. The Home Max also has far-field microphones so that it can catch your voice even with noise or music playing in the background thanks to machine learning and voice identification.
Max will work with most online music services, and it supports touch controls and Bluetooth. There's Google Cast support built-in as well along with a 3.5mm headphone jack.
The Google Home Max has been priced at $399 and it will come with 12-months free YouTube Red subscription. It will come in Charcoal and Chalk color options. It will be going on pre-order starting November 13 from the Google Store, Best Buy and more stores. Google also announced its Home Mini smart speaker priced at $49.
