Apple has launched its latest iPhone models in the 16 Pro series, including the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max, globally and in India. These devices succeeded last year’s iPhone 15 Pro models and were launched alongside the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus.
Both phones feature a new Titanium design, an A18 Pro chip, a customizable Action Button, a new camera control button, a larger 6.3-inch display for the Pro and the largest 6.9-inch display in iPhone for the 16 Pro Max, both with 120Hz ProMotion.
Apple A18 Pro -
The Apple A18 Pro, built with the same second-generation 3nm transistors as the A18, features a 16-core neural engine optimized for running large generative models, delivering up to 2x faster machine learning performance.
Its two performance cores and four efficiency cores are up to 15% faster than those in the A17 Pro, offering the same performance while using 20% less power. The chip includes larger caches, next-gen ML accelerators, and enhanced media features, including support for ProMotion, Always-On display, faster USB 3 speeds, and ProRes video recording. It also doubles data processing speeds for video encoding. The 6-core GPU is up to 20% faster than the A17 Pro.
Camera -
The iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max feature a new 48MP Main camera with a second-generation quad-pixel sensor with zero shutter lag for capturing 48MP ProRAW and HEIF photos. It includes a 48MP ultra-wide camera with a quad-pixel sensor and autofocus, supporting macro photography. The 5x telephoto lens with a 120mm focal length is now available on both the iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max.
With Camera Control, users can seamlessly switch between lenses. An update later this year will introduce the ability to lock focus and exposure with a half-press. The iPhone 16 Pro series also supports 4K120 video capture, enabled by the faster sensor in the 48MP fusion camera. This mode can be used for slow-motion or standard video recording and can be adjusted to playback at 120, 60, 30, or 24 fps.
Additionally, Spatial Audio capture enhances video recording for a more immersive experience when using AirPods or Apple Vision Pro. The Audio Mix feature uses machine learning to differentiate and separate background sounds from speech. "In-frame mix" isolates the voice of the person on camera, while "Studio mix" creates the effect of a professional recording studio.
Apple stated that the iPhone 16 features improved battery optimizations, larger batteries, and enhanced power management, while the iPhone 16 Pro Max boasts the longest battery life ever in an iPhone.

Pricing and Availability -
The Apple iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max come in Black Titanium, brighter White Titanium, natural Titanium, and new Desert Titanium colours. It will be available from Friday, September 20th on apple.com/store and in the Apple Store app, with availability in stores. Pre-orders start on September 13th at 5:30 PM IST. It is priced ₹15,000 lower than the iPhone 15 Pro series at launch.
