Xiaomi launched the Mi 5 on a global forum at MWC 2016. The company which has often been critized for copying Apple's software designs is now finally out of that shadow and the Mi 5 is a refreshing take on smartphone design, its thin, light and packs flagship internals for half the price. The Xiaomi Mi 5 has a metal frame which is crafted with precision and Gorilla Glass 4 front and back. But the phone is quite slippery and even slips out of your pockets when you are sitting down. Yu televentures hasn't produced a single device which worked well from the start and gave users a good experience, the Yureka Note is no exception. With sub-par build quality heating issues, very poor cameras, software bugs, fingerprint sensor issues, inconsistent performance, the Yureka Note is another device that you should should not bother to keep on your list. Lenovo now has a knack of making great value for money smartphones, with one or the other defining feature. The Vibe K5 Plus follows on the same principles and is more design centric. It offers a metal build, solid construction, sharp 1080p display and good battery-life. Although it doesn't perform as well as Coolpad Note 3 Lite, Meizu M2 or the dated Redmi 2 Prime, but if you are looking for a good smartphone with a 5-inch display which performs adequately well, the Vibe K5 Plus is worth a look. If cameras are your thing, then you should look elsewhere. Read more...
The Nexus 5X builds on what the Nexus 5 offers, with similar build, better cameras and updated specs. The Nexus 5 was one of my most favorite smartphones at the time, so the Nexus 5X would have been my de-facto choice given my proclivity to stock Android. But with inconsistent performance, a ridiculous price-tag for a very average built device, software issues like frequent app & camera crashes are something which are making me look towards the other Nexus for 2015. On top of that LG packs a USB Type-C to Type-C cable, instead of a Type-C to normal USB cable, which means even after paying a hefty sum you would have to go out and either get an adapter/cable or install third-party apps to transfer files to your device, a very bad out-of-the-box experience. Coolpad stunned everyone with the introduction of a fingerprint sensor and 3GB RAM in the Coolpad Note 3 priced under Rs. 10000. The Note 3 performs great, has decent set of cameras, looks good and although the software does need a bit of work. Overall the Coolpad Note 3 is an excellent option in terms of value for money for the consumer, but there are a few things that need to be worked on including heating issues with continuous use and average battery-life. The InFocus M370 has a neat design and the good things about the phone end there. With poor performance, app crashes, poor cameras and well altogether poor usability, its easy to not recommend buying this one. There are far better 4G LTE capable smartphones vailable in this price segment including the Redmi 2 without a hybrid SIM card slot. Read more...
Being the company's 2nd offering a lot was expected from the Meizu M2 Note. It checks the right points when it comes to design, build and display, but where is falters is actual usability with a complicated UI amd heating issues even with normal usage. There is definitely promise here with good cameras, good performance but mostly its letdown by FlymeOS and lack of a proper service network in India. Read more...
The YU Yunique is the answer to Xiaomi's Redmi 2 Prime. At a lower price point it offers similar specs in a similar form factor with almost stock Android. The Yunique offers good build quality, good battery-life and does work well most of the time. The software needs polish, performance needs to be improved, which may just be a few OTA updates away. Overall the YU Yunique at its current price point is one of the best budget 4G LTE devices in the market. Read more...
