Xolo Q600 Benchmarks

XOLO Q600 is the latest entrant in the QCORE series of quad-core smartphones from XOLO.  We have benchmarked the XOLO Q600 on a variety of available tools, including Quadrant, AnTuTu, Vellamo as well as NenaMark2. The benchmarking video is embedded below and then we have the detailed scores of the various benchmark tests.

Hardware Overview

The Q600 is powered by a 1.2 GHz quad-core processor, which is based on the MediaTek MT6589 chipset. There’s 512MB of RAM and 4GB of internal expandable storage on-board as well. There's a 4.5-inch FWVGA (854 x 480 pixels) display that adorns the front of the smartphone, its TFT LCD therefore looks extremely sharp and has good saturation. The phone also features PowerVR SGX 544MP from Imagination Technologies, which powers the graphics of the phone. It is the same GPU that powers the Canvas HD and the recently launched Canvas 4 as well as the XOLO Q800 and Q1000. You can also see our unboxing video and images right here.

The phone also has a 5-megapixel primary camera with single-led flash as well as a VGA front-facing camera for video calls. The phone also has some sensors, namely:

  • 3-axis Accelerometer – To detect change in motion from the initial configuration of the device i.e. laid flat on a surface.
  • Light Sensor – Used to detect change in ambient light, helps to automatically adjust brightness.
  • Proximity Sensor – As the name suggests, it checks how close objects are. The proximity sensor is calibrated in such a way that while you are in a call the screen goes off as the sensor detects that your face is close to the device.

Benchmarks

Quadrant Benchmark

Quadrant is a CPU, I/O and 3D benchmark app for Android, which provides total as well as separate scores of the tests it conducts. Based on the total score, a graph is generated to show where the phone lies wrt to other devices.

Xolo Q600 Quadrant 4070

The XOLO Q600 got a total Quadrant score of 4070, which lands it just below the Asus Transformer Prime TF201 similar to the costlier XOLO Q800 and the Canvas 2 Plus. If we move into the details of scores, it got a CPU score of 9380, Memory 3421, I/O 5262 and graphics score of 2285. The score is comparable to Micromax’s and XOLO’s other quad-core MT6589 based smartphones, even a bit higher than the Canvas 2 Plus A110Q.

AnTuTu Benchmark

AnTuTu is a comprehensive benchmarking tool which is additive in nature unlike Quadrant which averages out scores. It tests the complete hardware of the device including the CPU, GPU, RAM as well the storage attached to the device.

The Q600 scored 13826 in the full AnTuTu benchmark, some categorized scores are given below:

  • CPU 5947
  • GPU 4802
  • RAM 2327
  • I/O 750

Xolo Q600 Antutu Benchmark 13826

The scores are excellent for a mid-range device like the XOLO Q600 which is available for just Rs. 8400. It proves that the phone is a solid performer and even with the 512MB of RAM it can challenge far costlier smartphones.

NenaMark2 Benchmark

NenaMark is primarily a graphics benchmark which uses real rendered screens to check the performance of the GPU of the device.

Xolo Q600 Nenamark2 Score 47_1 Fps

The XOLO Q600 scored 47.1 FPS on the NenaMark2 benchmark, which puts it somewhere in line with the Galaxy S2 which too has similar NenaMark scores. This is a bit lower than the framerates we expected given the low-res display, but even then the scores are in line with the XOLO Q800 and Canvas HD but lower than the Canvas 2 Plus which scored a whopping 54.8 FPS.

Vellamo Benchmark

Vellamo has several chapters, we tested the HTML5 chapter which checks mobile browser performance, which includes SunSpider JavaScript and V8 benchmark. The Metal chapter measures CPU performance.

Xolo Q600 Vellamo Html5 Metal

XOLO Q600 scored 1369 on the Vellamo HTML5 test as it failed one test due to low free RAM and 481 on the Metal chapter of Vellamo, which puts in just below the Galaxy S3 and above the Galaxy Note in terms of performance. Which just goes to say, that given the price the Q600 is surely something to consider.

Multitouch Test

Xolo Q600 Multitouch Test

We tested the multitouch capabilities of the display, and found that the display supports five points of touch. Therefore it is able to detect 5 individual touch inputs at once, which again goes to show that for the price you get a much better performing device and is definitely a good buy for someone looking for a mid-range Android smartphone. What’s more, it only comes in white, so no issue of choosing a color.

Benchmark comparison with XOLO Q600, XOLO Q800, Micromax A110Q Canvas 2 Plus and Canvas HD A116

As you can see in the benchmarks below, the XOLO Q600 is able to hold its ground than the costlier alternatives it is pitted against.

Xolo Q600 Vs Xolo Q800 Vs Canvas 2 Plus Vs Canvas Hd Quadrant

Xolo Q600 Vs Xolo Q800 Vs Canvas 2 Plus Vs Canvas Hd Antutu Scores

Xolo Q600 Vs Xolo Q800 Vs Canvas 2 Plus Vs Canvas Hd Nenamark2 Scores

Xolo Q600 Vs Xolo Q800 Vs Canvas 2 Plus Vs Canvas Hd Vellamo Scores

Conclusion

In our observation as well as the benchmarks that were done on the XOLO Q600, it seems XOLO has found the best mid-range device at a very attractive price-point. The price to performance ratio makes it worth a look if you are going to buy a new smartphone, with good build quality and impressive performance. But there’s a long way to go before we recommend this device, and will reserve judgment till we have the camera samples, gaming and the full review of the Q600 which we’ll start with in the coming week.
