Xiaomi is hosting an event in China for the launch of the Xiaomi Max, the company teased the phone earlier with a picture showing that the phone will fit in your pocket but given the 6.4-inch display size, that seems a bit odd. The picture shows the top of the Xiaomi Max clearly, and we did notice that there is no MI logo which is only present on Xiaomi’s flagship devices like the Mi3, Mi4, Mi5, Mi4i and not on the Redmi series, which means it will fall into the mid-range segment for the company.
The Xiaomi Max specs which leaks earlier on GFXBench also agree to that assessment:
- 6.4-inch FHD 1080p display
- Snapdragon 650 Hexa-core Processor
- 2GB/3GB RAM
- 16GB/32GB Internal Storage
- MIUI Based on Android Marshmallow
- 16MP Rear and 5MP Front Camera
- Front Mounted Fingerprint sensor
- 4G LTE with VoLTE, dual-band WiFi, Bluetooth 4.1, GPS, FM Radio
At present its not known whether the Xiaomi Max will have 3 separate slots for dual-SIM and MicroSD cards or a hybrid arrangement where you would have to let go of one SIM slot to make way for the microSD card.
There are speculations that the company could be launching a couple of more things alongside the Xiaomi Max:
MIUI 8: There have been rumors that MIUI 8 is just around the corner and we may see a glimpse of it on the May 10th event (Confirmed!).
Mi Band 2: The Xiaomi Mi Band has been one of the most successful products of the company, making them the third largest player in the space with just a single product. The company update the original Mi Band with the Mi Band 1s which got a heart-rate sensor but kept the rest of the design and sensors the same. Now, the long expected update to the Mi Band might be in the offing at the Xiaomi Max event, with the Mi Band 2 which should have a display as well. And as with most Xiaomi products like the Mi Band 1s, the Mi Band 2 will arrive either quite late or we may never see it launch in India.
For the time being, in India, Xiaomi is concentrating on the Redmi Note 3 and Mi 5 sales. The company is organizing an Open Sale for the Redmi Note 3 on April 27th on Mi.com alongwith a flash sale on Amazon.in. Stay tuned for more updates.
Update: Xiaomi is also releasing MIUI 8 at its May 10th launch event, and possibly showcase the Mi band 2 as well.
