Xiaomi scales new heights with 34.7 million smartphone shipments in just the first half of 2015

Xiaomi today announced that the company has sold 34.7 million smartphones in the first half of 2015 which is a 33% yoy (year-on-year) increase. That's not all, Xiaomi's entire product portfolio is actually doing quite well and six models including the Mi 2, Mi 3, Redmi 1S, Redmi Note, Mi 4 and Redmi 2 all have sold 10 million units each till now (since their launch).


Xiaomi has been able to maintain is top ranking in China in terms of marketshare for the last 5 quarters. Moreover, with the increase in shipments, Xiaomi is looking towards more markets including Brazil, where the company has just started operations and plans to manufacture smartphones locally in partnership with FoxConn.


Elated on the success, Lei Jun, founder and CEO of Xiaomi had this to say:

Even with the China smartphone market slowing down, we did a stellar job of posting a 33% growth on last year’s numbers. It can be said that we outperformed the market and produced an excellent report card.

With the tremendous grown Xiaomi is seeing, the company has also roped in former president of Qualcomm Greater China Wang Xiang as the senior VP for strategic co-operation as well as Shou Zi Chew, former partner at international investment fund DST and who can forget Hugo Barra, former VP at Google who has now become the face of the company as its Global VP.
