Android fanboys might have started snickering at the thought, a smartphone OS without a proper File Manager. Well, both iOS and Windows Phone still don't have a proper file management solution in place apart from certain 3rd party apps which don't always tend to work well. Joe Belfiore, Windows Phone chief at Microsoft teased the File Manager app at a Reddit AMA, and is ready for launch later this month.
Its good to see that Microsoft is including its own File Manager with Windows Phone 8.1, something that even Google doesn't do. The interface is pretty straight forward, you are given a directory structure which you can browse and select the files you are looking for. You have categorized folders as well like downloads, music, pictures, music, videos, personal which can be found if you open the SD card on your phone using the MTP connection.
What remains to be seen if there is OneDrive integration, which if not will be a big omission. We will keep you posted about the app and give an overview when it launches. Till then stay tuned, there's lot more to come on this front.
