Vivo has launched its latest foldable smartphones the Vivo X Fold3 and X Fold3 Pro in China, as they promised. These innovative devices boast a consistent design language, sporting a circular rear camera housing, a sturdy carbon fiber hinge, an alert slider, and matching displays.
The primary inner display spans 8.03 inches diagonally, offering a resolution of 2480 x 2200 pixels and a smooth 120Hz refresh rate. Utilizing Samsung E7 material, it achieves an impressive local peak brightness of 4,500 nits. Complementing this is the cover display, measuring 6.53 inches with a resolution of 1172 x 2748 pixels and the same 120Hz refresh rate, also capable of reaching 4,500 nits of brightness.
Both variants of the X Fold3 series come equipped with a lightweight carbon fiber hinge, tipping the scales at just 14.98 grams. This hinge has been rigorously tested and certified by TÜV Rhineland for durability, capable of enduring 500,000 folds. Furthermore, vivo has bolstered the phones' drop resistance significantly – the front is now 11 times more resistant, while the back is 15 times more resistant compared to their predecessors, the X Fold2.
The foldable display is reinforced with an impact-resistant film in addition to UTG. In terms of size, when folded, the X Fold3 Pro measures 11.2mm thick, while its standard counterpart is 10.2mm thick. As for weight, the X Fold3 weighs in at 219 grams, whereas the Pro variant tips the scales at 236 grams.
Powered by the latest Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset, the X Fold3 Pro offers two configurations: 16GB/512GB and 16GB/1TB, featuring LPDDR5X RAM and UFS 4.0 storage. It also integrates a specialized vivo V3 imaging chip.
The primary camera on the X Fold3 Pro is a 50MP "ultra-sensing" unit equipped with a 1/1.3” OmniVision OV50H sensor and an f/1.68 lens with OIS. Additionally, it incorporates a 64MP 3x telephoto module and a 50MP ultra-wide-angle module. Selfie capture is handled by a pair of 32MP sensors.
Both devices offer dual-SIM 5G connectivity, Wi-Fi 7, NFC, and an IR blaster. The Pro version incorporates USB 3.2 Gen2, stereo speakers, Wireless Lossless Hi-Fi audio, and two 3D ultrasonic fingerprint readers. Meanwhile, the X Fold3 is equipped with a side-mounted fingerprint reader and boasts IPX4 water resistance, whereas the Pro model elevates the waterproofing with IPX8 certification.
In contrast, the X Fold3 runs on the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor and offers configurations ranging from 12GB/256GB to 16GB/1TB. Its main camera features a 50MP Sony sensor, accompanied by a 50MP portrait camera and a 50MP ultra-wide camera. The selfie setup remains unchanged.
The Pro variant boasts a larger 5,700mAh battery capacity, while the X Fold3 settles for a 5,500mAh battery. The Pro model supports both 100W wired charging and 50W wireless charging, whereas the X Fold3 only supports 80W wired charging.
