Finally, the Vivo V5 has arrived packing a 20MP front camera, a first for any smartphone. The V5 is the successor to the successful Vivo V3 which also packs a metal build and similar design. Now, out of the box, the Vivo V5 will run on Android Marshmallow with FunTouch OS 2.6 which is good given that Vivo is very slow in updating its smartphones.
The home button up front also doubles up as the fingerprint sensor which can unlock the device in just about 0.2 seconds. It's great to see more manufacturers moving to a front fingerprint sensor.
Under the hood, you will find the Vivo V5 packs a MediaTek MT6750 octa-core processor clocked at 1.5GHz, 4GB RAM, 32GB onboard storage and there's a 5.5-inch HD 720p display up front covered in 2.5D Gorilla Glass. Specs, not exactly worthy of the price point especially a 720p display while everyone else has moved to a 1080p panel in this price segment.
Talking about the cameras again, you have a 20MP front camera which uses a Sony IMX376 sensor with f/2.0 aperture. It also has a "Moonlight Flash" for more natural looking selfies even in dark. At the back, there's a 13MP camera with LED flash and phase detection autofocus. Vivo has always tried to outdo the competition with better audio from its smartphones, and here too the company has included a separate audio chip the AK4376 for better audio reproduction both through the speaker and 3.5mm audio jack.
Now, keeping the lights on is a 3000 mAh battery all kept nicely tucked in a 7.55mm thin metal body.
