VESA DisplayPort 2.0 Alt mode spec announced for USB4 Type-C connector with 80Gbps speed, support for 8K HDR monitor

VESA DP Alt Mode

The Video Electronics Standards Association (VESA) has announced a new Spec Mode in USB type-c port called DisplayPort 2.0 Alternate Mode Standard, which comes in the upcoming USB 4 specification. This feature can be fully upgraded in the USB Type-C port where you can enable a data transfer up to 80 Gigabits per second (Gbps) of DisplayPort video data and up to 40 Gbps with continuously SuperSpeed USB data transfer.

The New USB4 Type-C specifications are -

Transfer Speed
capable of transfer speeds up to 77.37 Gbps across four lanes (up to 19.34 Gbps per lane)
Video Supports
  • 8K video at 60Hz (7680×4320) with full-color 30 bpp 4:4:4 HDR resolution
  • compressed 16K Video (15360×8460) at 60Hz with 30 bpp 4:4:4 HDR support
Features DisplayPort 2.0 will also provide improvements to AR/VR displays, including 4K VR solutions.
ConnectivityCompatibility with USB 3.2, USB 2.0 and Thunderbolt 3

The VESA expected to announce the products with the DisplayPort 2.0 Alt Mode spec will be arrived starting in 2021.
