While the whole world is waiting on Android 4.4 KitKat, Sony has begun updating its flagship devices to Android 4.3 KitKat. Last week we told you that the Sony Xperia Z1 and Z Ultra had begun receiving their updates, this week its the turn of Xperia Z, Xperia ZL, Xperia ZR and Xperia Tablet Z to get Android 4.3 Jelly Bean. These devices were launched with either Android 4.1.2 and later updated to Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean or in case of the Xperia ZR launched with Android 4.2.
The new update brings new features as well as performance improvements. Sony's Smart Camera app which made its appearance with the Xperia Z1 also finds itself as part of the update package.
Here's the complete changelog to Sony's Xperia Android 4.3 update:
- Project Butter performance & UI optimization and a smoother graphical experience
- Launched with Xperia Z1, Sony’s Smart Social Camera to these devices, with access to “Xperia camera apps” directly from within the viewfinder
- Updates to Messaging, MyXperia, Smart Connect, Small apps, TrackID, Sony Select apps
- WALKMAN, Album and Movies also get an update
- Downloadable UI packages called “Xperia Themes”
- Android security enhancements
- Battery STAMINA Mode improvements
- Restricted Profiles with option to create isolated, secure spaces with individual local storage, home screens, widgets and settings for Xperia Tablet Z
The update has already begun seeding and will be gradually rolled out globally.
