Sony has launched its new Xperia X and Xperia XA smartphones in India, both of which were announced at MWC 2016 earlier this year.
Xperia X
The Sony Xperia X comes with a 5-inch 1080p Triluminous display and runs on the hexa-core Snapdragon 650 processor with Adreno 510 GPU, Android 6.0 Marshmallow.
The highlight here as with most Sony smartphones is the new 23MP rear camera which uses the company's own 1/3-inch ExmorRS sensor with f/2.0 aperture and predictive hybrid autofocus. With the new auto-focusing system, once an object is selected, the camera tries to predict motion so that the object always remains in focus. This is something I would like to test for myself.
You also get a massive camera upgrade on the front with a 13MP selfie camera with ExmorRS sensor capable of recording 1080p videos. Sony's legacy for supporting hi-fi audio on smartphones is carried forward on the Xperia X as well with DSEE HX and LDAC support.
Just like the previous-gen Xperia Z5 series you also get a fingerprint sensor on the Xperia X on the side of the phone which doubles up as the power button. Other specs include 3GB RAM, 32GB onboard storage which is expandable with a microSD card slot and a 2630 mAh battery which supports Qnovo Adaptive fast charging technology.
Connectivity options include dual-SIM 4G LTE support, dual-band WiFi, Bluetooth 4.2, GPS and NFC.
Xperia XA
The Xperia XA has quite a striking design given the curved 5-inch display up front. The curved glass at the top of the display gives the illusion on an edge-to-edge display but it comes in at a paltry 720p resolution.
Powering the Xperia XA is the MediaTek Helio P10 octa-core processor with 2GB RAM, 16GB storage which is expandable with a microSD card slot, Android 6.0 Marshmallow.
You get a 13MP rear camera here with IMX258 sensor, 1080p video recording along with an 8MP front-facing camera which too can record in 1080p. The Xperia XA is quite thin at just 7.9mm and weighs in at just 137 grams with a 2300 mAh battery.
There is support for dual-SIM 4G LTE, WiFi, GPS, Bluetooth and FM Radio along with NFC. The Xperia XA doesn't come with a fingerprint sensor though.
