Sony has launched its latest Xperia smartphone the Xperia 5 V (Pronounced Mark 5) at an online event, as expected. It has a 6.1-inch 21:9 FHD+ HDR display with 120Hz refresh rate, 240Hz touch scanning rate, same as the predecessor, and a Side-mounted Fingerprint sensor. It runs on the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor with 8GB of RAM, 256GB UFS 4.0 storage, and is based on Android 13.
The Xperia 5 V is equipped with the latest 52MP sensor, known as "Exmor T for mobile," yet it features only dual rear cameras that enable shooting at three different focal lengths: 16mm, 24mm, and 48mm. The 48mm focal length is particularly noteworthy as it is equivalent to a 2x optical focal length, ensuring that you can capture subjects in larger detail without compromising image quality, according to the company's statement.
This device also introduces S-Cinetone, a feature well-regarded by cinematographers, which has been optimized and integrated for mobile use. Additionally, it includes Creative Look, a feature found in Sony's Alpha series cameras, and high-performance real-time autofocus (AF).
The Xperia 5 V boasts Full-Stage stereo speakers, Sony's proprietary 360 Reality Audio, and Dolby Atmos sound tuned in collaboration with Sony Pictures Entertainment. Its front and back are protected by Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2, and it carries IP65/68 ratings for dust and water resistance. It is powered by a 5000mAh battery that supports fast charging and Qi wireless charging.

The Sony Xperia 5 V comes in Black, Blue, and Platinum Silver colors, and the price is 999 Euros (USD 1,085 / Rs. 89,670 approx.) / 849 GBP for 8GB RAM with 256GB storage version. It will be available from late September across major UK retailers.
