Sony just launched its latest flagship 5G smartphones the Xperia 1 III (Pronounced Mark 3) and Xperia 5 III at an online event, as we expected. The Xperia 1 III has a 6.5-inch 21:9 CinemaWide 4K HDR display with Corning Gorilla Glass Victus protection, while the Xperia 5 III has 6.1-inch 21:9 CinemaWide FHD+ HDR display with a 120Hz refresh rate and a 240Hz touch scanning rate, but comes with a side-mounted fingerprint scanner instead of the in-display fingerprint scanner. Both runs on the latest Snapdragon 888 processor with 12GB of RAM, 256GB UFS 3.1 storage, support for sub-6GHz 5G, and based on Android 11.
Coming to the cameras, these phones have a triple rear camera setup where a 12 MP primary camera with f/1.7 aperture, OIS along with 12 MP ultra-wide camera, and a 12 MP telephoto lens that can shoot in 75mm and 105mm focal lengths with fast AF that lets you capture moving subjects even at a distance. Because two focal lengths are present in one telephoto module with Dual PDAF sensors when you switch between 70 mm and 105 mm, the focal lens unit and the AF lens unit work in unison to focus fast.
The Xperia 1 III has a 3D iToF (indirect Time-of-Flight) sensor, and both features ZEISS optics with T* (T-Star) anti-reflective coating that gives the best quality of images and delivers the best photography experience and up to 20fps AF/AE tracking burst, same as the previous one. Only Xperia 1 III has Cinema Pro features, powered by CineAlta offers 21:9 Movie recording in 4K HDR that provided the best results even in backlit scenes or low light.
These phones have Gorilla Glass 6 protection for the frosted glass back panel and have Full-Stage stereo speakers, a 3.5 mm audio jack, Sony’s own 360 Reality Audio with Dolby Atmos sound tuned in collaboration with Sony Pictures Entertainment. Both are powered by a 4,500mAh battery that supports fast charging and Qi wireless charging, but Xperia 5 III doesn't have wireless charging.
