Sony lyt 818 sensor launch.

Sony has unveiled the Lytia LYT-818, the latest high-end smartphone sensor in its LYT-800 series, following the release of the LYT-808 last year. This 1/1.28-inch 50MP sensor is designed for both main and secondary smartphone cameras, significantly enhancing low-light performance by reducing noise and offering a wider dynamic range, according to the company.

The LYT-818 features advanced noise reduction, HDR functionality, and an innovative circuit that efficiently converts the charge from the photodiode into voltage. This minimizes random noise and achieves a remarkable read noise (RN) performance of 0.95e-, making it a leader among mobile CMOS sensors.

The sensor also includes a new HDR function that captures data from three different gain settings in a single exposure, delivering an impressive dynamic range of 86dB. This helps prevent overexposure and underexposure in high-contrast scenes. Furthermore, the sensor consumes less power and offers continuous HDR functionality, allowing users to preview HDR effects directly on their smartphone screens.
