An official looking teaser of the camera-centric Sony i1 Honami suggests that the phone will break ground on September 4th in Berlin. Two days before IFA, almost at the same time that Samsung is going to unveil the Galaxy Note III. This has now been confirmed by Bloomberg.
Sony Honami has appeared in various leaks over the last few months, some of which highlight its 20.7MP camera sensor, with Sony G Lens of f/2.0 aperture for better low-light photography. The recent interest in camera features by smartphone manufacturers probably didn't leave Sony much choice and introduce its own camera first smartphone. Considering the popularity of the Nokia Lumia 1020 and to some extent the Samsung Galaxy Zoom, Sony might be heading in the right direction.
Sony is also expected to launch its interchangeable camera lens attachment for iPhone and Android handsets which communicates wirelessly with your phone, and uses its display as the viewfinder.
