SK Hynix has officially initiated the commercial release of LPDDR5T (Low Power Double Data Rate 5 Turbo), renowned as the fastest mobile DRAM globally, boasting an impressive speed of 9.6Gbps. This step follows the initial development of the DRAM, which commenced in January 2023.
A key distinguishing factor is that SK Hynix has received confirmation validating the LPDDR5T's compatibility with Qualcomm Technologies' latest Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 Mobile Platform, making it the first product of its kind to receive such recognition from Qualcomm. The "T" in the name signifies "Turbo," with the DRAM operating at a data rate of 9.6 GB/s, marking a 13% speed increase compared to the preceding generation of LPDDR5X, which offers 8.5 GB/s.
SK Hynix intends to introduce a 16GB-capacity product achieved by integrating multiple individual LPDDR5T chips, resulting in an impressive data processing speed of 77GB per second. This speed is equivalent to handling 15 full-HD movies in a single second. Furthermore, the LPDDR5T product stands out in power efficiency, functioning at the lowest voltage within the range of 1.01 to 1.12V as per the standards set by the Joint Electron Device Engineering Council (JEDEC).
The company has utilized the HKMG (High-K Metal Gate) process to enhance both speed and power efficiency, positioning the LPDDR5T to secure a substantial market share before the anticipated launch of the next-generation LPDDR6.
