Samsung may be considering the launch of more affordable foldable phones, like the Galaxy Z Flip FE and Z Fold FE, as hinted by tipster Kro (@kro_roe) on X (formerly Twitter). This speculation comes after earlier reports suggested that the Fold FE might debut following the release of the Galaxy Z Flip 6 and Fold 6 later this year.
Galaxy Z Flip FE and Z Fold FE -
According to screenshots shared by the tipster, Samsung is developing budget-friendly versions of its foldable devices under the Fan Edition brand. The leaked images reveal two purported Samsung foldable phones called ‘Galaxy Z Fold FE’ and ‘Galaxy Z Flip FE.’ The Flip FE appears to offer 8GB of RAM, 256GB of storage, and possibly a Snapdragon 7s Gen 2 chip.
However, there are some concerns surrounding the purported Galaxy Z Fold FE. The screenshot suggests that the phone might not come with an Exynos 2200 or Exynos 2400 chip but instead with another unidentified Exynos SoC starting with “2,” possibly the non-existent Exynos 2300.
The tipster suggests that only one of these Fan Edition foldable phones will be released. Additionally, another tipster named Anthony (@TheGalox_) suggests that both Fan Editions of the Galaxy Fold and Flip could feature Exynos models, potentially the Exynos 2200.
Why Galaxy FE foldable?
If Samsung does decide to launch FE foldable, it could potentially lower the cost of foldable phones by making strategic decisions regarding peripherals and materials. For example, omitting support for the S-Pen stylus, reducing memory and storage options, and using cheaper materials could help reduce production costs.
Although opting for a Snapdragon 7 series chipset instead of the top-tier Snapdragon 8 series may impact performance, it aligns with the cost-saving strategy. While these screenshots should be approached with caution, they're not the first hints of Samsung's potential Fan Edition foldable phones. However, it's advisable not to place too much reliance on these leaks until they are officially confirmed.
