If you are still holding onto your Samsung Galaxy Nexus, here's the good news. Folks over at XDA-Developers have just created a working Android 7.1 Nougat ROM for the Galaxy Nexus smartphone.
Built under the Unlegacy-Android project, many of the new Nougat features are coming to the Galaxy Nexus. The build seems stable for now, although some issues with GPS have been reported. Furthermore, there can be some issues with connectivity on the 5GHz WiFi band.
Normal phone functions seem to be working fine. If you remember, Android 4.3 Jelly Bean was the last official update sent to the phone by Google but the phone has been kept alive thanks to the work of enterprising developers.
Now, it won't be a very easy task to get the new update running on your Galaxy Nexus. First of all, your Nexus should be rooted and then you need to download the ROM and GApps package for your phone. You can find all the details in the source link below.
