We've been hearing rumors of impending smartwatches from all major companies in the mobile space. Now Samsung Executive Vice President of Mobile Lee Young-hee said to the Korea Times that their Galaxy Gear Smartwatch is definitely real and will make an appearance on September 4th in Berlin, in the same event where the Galaxy Note 3 is going to be unveiled.
The new smartwatch is expected to run on Android, with a 2.5-inch 320 x 320 pixels display and a dual-core processor. Although it seems that Galaxy Gear smartwatch will be exclusively tied to your Samsung smartphone through an app which will connect over Bluetooth.
At present that's all we know, it won't be a standalone device with calling capabilities but an additional accessory to your smartphone which might help screen calls, notifications or messages, with some music , volume controls or possibly voice commands thrown in.
Samsung has made it a habit of throwing everything against the wall and seeing what sticks, therefore we won't be surprised if the Galaxy Gear too has some crazy gimmicky software features thrown in. But we'll reserve judgement till September 4th, 2 days before IFA 2013.
