Qualcomm has announced its latest 7nm processor Snapdragon 870 5G Mobile Platform, which is the upgrade version of the Snapdragon 865 SoC that was launched back in July. This comes after the launch of the Snapdragon 888 5nm SoC. It comes with Qualcomm Kryo 585 CPU (a reworked Cortex-A77) Prime core run at up to 3.2 GHz along with 3x Cortex-A77 and 4x Cortex-A55. and has Adreno 650 GPU which is the same as previous, but the company says that it will give geared-up gameplay with insanely fast Qualcomm Snapdragon Elite Gaming experiences.
It also has a truly global 5Gsub-6 GHz and mmWave with an external Snapdragon X55 modem, and ultra-intuitive AI. This is the first time Qualcomm announces three iterations of a flagship processor. It may be called this Snapdragon 865 Pro instead of Snapdragon 870. The display driver can run up to 1440p class panels at 144Hz (or 4K at 60 Hz) and supports HDR10+ (Rec. 2020 color gamut). The Spectra 480 ISP is unchanged as well, so will support sensors up to 200 MP, 8K video capture at 30 fps (and 4K at 120 fps), high dynamic range videos using the HDR10+ and Dolby Vision standards.
The Snapdragon 870 SoC will be power in phones by Motorola, OnePlus, Oppo, Xiaomi, and iQOO. After Qualcomm announced the Snapdragon 870 chipset, Motorola has confirmed that its latest flagship smartphone Moto Edge S will premiere with the new chip on January 26.
According to the rumors, the Motorola Edge S is expected to have a 6.7-inch FHD+ display with an odd 105Hz refresh rate and comes with a 64MP quad rear camera setup. The Motorola Edge S expected to bring similar specs to the Motorola Edge+ that has a 5,000mAh battery, OLED display, curved display, and a triple camera. We should know more details and the full specification of the phone in the coming days.
