We have been back and forth on this, but now according to the WSJ, Nokia's Android smartphone codenamed Normandy may actually be launched at an event before MWC 2014. The phone might finally be called Nokia X and would come with entry-level specifications and without access to the Play Store. Nokia in its first ever Android handset will incorporate Microsoft services in some way alongwith its own Here Maps, Drive and Mix Radio apps.
The Nokia Normandy or Nokia X will run a forked version of Android with its own app store, just like what Amazon does with the Kindle Fire. Here's a rundown of the rumored specifications:
- Processor: 1 GHz Dual-core Snapdragon
- Display: 4-inch, WVGA (800 x 480 pixels)
- Memory: 512MB RAM, 4GB Internal storage expandable via micro SD
- Camera: 5 MP primary
- Battery: 1500 mAh battery
- Connectivity: Dual-SIM, 3G, WiFi, Bluetooth
This new line of devices running Android will probably replace the current Asha line-up and help Nokia focus better in the low-end segment with competitive smartphones.
