Mixradio Shutting Down 1

Another one of Nokia's creations is now dead.

MixRadio which began life on Nokia's Lumia range was an exclusive to Windows Phone for a while. After Nokia's acquisition by Microsoft, MixRadio changed hands to Japanese messaging giant Line. It seems even they weren't able to handle the dwindling profits of the music streaming platform and have decided to shut down the service.

In a public statement, Line says that the reason behind the closure of MixRadio is the lack of revenue. The service had a weird revenue model, wherein you could listen to its radio streams for free and take mixes offline with ads.

In recent times, MixRadio came to the forefront again when Samsung announced that it will be bundling unlimited MixRadio subscription with all its smartphones sold in India along with its MyGalaxy promotions and rewards platform. But that didn't seem to gather as much steam, as the company had hoped for.

Line has said that the service with be phased out in the following weeks and that music streaming would still be available through the Line Music app for users in Japan and Thailand.

MixRadio was one of Nokia's finest creations with a huge library of millions of tracks, a functional, simple interface and ease of use. But like most of company's technological breakthroughs that went into making Windows Phones are slowly perishing away or being merged into other apps/services. If you were a proud MixRadio user, time has come to search for an alternative.
