Stephen Elop has announced the new Nokia Asha 501 in New Delhi, India. This is the first device of the new generation Asha series, which is inspired from the Nokia Lumia and Nokia has decided to go with Red as the signature color of the new line.
The software behind the new Asha platform is built on "Smarter Phone", which Nokia acquired a few years back. Everything works with easy swipes and a new feature called Fast Lane, which allows your phone to show Notifications as well as your Current tasks. Multitasking! Hallelujah!
The Nokia Asha 501 is built with just two parts, the back is removable with access to the microSIM, there's a 4GB pre-installed microSD card and the battery. Double tapping the screen wakes up the phone, where you are greeted with two homescreens - one is the app drawer and the other Fast Lane.
Here are the specifications of the Nokia Asha 501:
- Display: 3-inch, 320 x 240 pixels, hardened glass covering
- OS: Symbian series S40, SmarterPhone
- Storage: 4GB microSD card included
- Connectivity: 2G, Wi-Fi b/g/n, Bluetooth
Nokia has confirmed that a dual-sim version of the Asha 501 will be available soon as well, which will allow you to swap out SIM cards without having to remove the battery of power off your phone. The company also touted that the new Asha series will be quite efficient, starting with the 501 which will give users a Talk Time of about 17 hours and a standby time of more than 80 days. Impressed yet, we are.
