Micromax is trying hard to stuff each segment with as many smartphones as possible which use the same chipset and come with more or less, the same set of features. Here's the Micromax Canvas Elanza A93 which has a 5-inch qHD (960 x 540 pixels) display, 1GB RAM, 1.3 GHz dual-core MediaTek MT6572 processor with 1 GB RAM running Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean. But the Canvas Elanza comes with better build, matte black in color with rubberized front and sides alongwith an appealing design albeit in a much larger frame than we would have liked. Nevertheless, with the same innards as most of the phones in this segment, how does it fare in our benchmarks. Let's have a look.

The Canvas Elanza A93 has been atleast priced rightly in this segment, and in terms of specs with a higher-res display it certainly seems better on paper. But the display is sub-par, although high in resolution the contrast levels have been set so high that everything looks over-saturated and text looks pixelated due to it.

Quadrant Score Comparison
Canvas Elanza A93 got a low score of 3213 on Quadrant, which is a bit lower than expected for the MT6572 chipset but that's due to the qHD resolution of the display. Its one of the lowest scores in the segment apart from the Nokia X.
AnTuTu Score Comparison
We got a score of 10738 on AnTuTu with the Canvas Elanza A93 which is a decent score and quite competitive when compared to other handsets based on the same chipset but lower than the Galaxy S Duos 2 as well as the Xperia E1 Dual.
NenaMark Score Comparison
A higher resolution qHD display doesn't bode well for the Mali-400 MP GPU especially with a 5-inch display and quite predictably the Canvas Elanza A93 scored 35.7 FPS on NenaMark 2 which is quite low but we still had high hopes for the gaming review where we were disappointed. The framerate was inconsistent, the display seemed super-saturated which made the experience worse. In general gaming is quite laggy on the Canvas Elanza.
Vellamo HTML5 and Metal
Micromax A93 scored 1673 on Vellamo HTML5 which is a good score, meaning there is some hope left atleast in regular usage and web-browsing. Same goes for the Metal score of 478 which is again on the higher side, meaning the processor certainly has the extra power for churning numbers but the GPU lets the phone down and brings the entire experience down with it with lag everywhere.
Linpack
We got 59.16 MFlops on single thread Linpack test and 88.07 MFlops on the multi-thread test which are decent scores for this chipset and quite similar to its competition.
Multi-touch Test
The 5-inch display on the Canvas Elanza supports 5-points of touch, meaning it can register 5 fingers at once which is a good offering in this segment. But the display in terms of overall quality, color reproduction as well as viewing angles is definitely sub-par.
Conclusion
The Canvas Elanza is just another try from Micromax in an already over-crowded segment. It comes with decent specs and build quality. It proved to be just about average in terms of performance but the display is a big let down. It looks over-saturated and has poor viewing angles. Its just not good. Then its a humongous phone with huge bezels at the top and bottom which just seem overkill.
Even with decent performance, its that display which makes us truly hate the Canvas Elanza A93. The Full Review awaits, where we will test some of its other facets including battery life.
