Jolla Sailfish OS has been in the news for quite some time, developed by ex-Nokia engineers, is based on a Meego port. Nokia abandoned Meego way back in 2011, when it sold its soul to Microsoft. Jolla Sailfish supports running Android apps, which will give it thousands of supported apps on launch.
Jolla, the smartphone, features a 4.5-inch qHD display and is powered by a 1.4 GHz dual-core Snapdragon processor with 1 GB RAM. Its a mid-level device through and through, but does feature an 8 MP primary camera with LED flash alongwith a 2 MP front-facing camera. There's 16GB of internal storage which is expandable via micro-SD card with 2100 mAh battery. Thankfully, it does come with 4G support as well.
The Jolla will first launch in Finland today followed by over 135 other countries. At present there is no word on price.
Update:
The price of the Jolla smartphone has been confirmed at €399 or about $405, which is a pretty steep price considering the likes of the Motorola Moto G which is a fairly capable quad-core smartphone available for just $179.
