Intel is ready with another onslaught on the tablet market with its Bay Trail CPU's. Intel has already made its Bay Trail T-chips available for Windows 8/8.1 tablets, and now it wants to do the same for Android tablets. Z3735D will be the first Intel Bay Trail CPU designed specifically for low-end Android tablets priced between $99 to $129, and for 7 to 8 inch variants priced at $149 to $199. These chipsets will be available Q1 2014. The Cherry Trail platform will be available for larger tablets, priced above $200.
Cherry Trail platform will launch next September, which will be based on the 14nm Airmont architecture. Cherry Trail will support both 32 and 64 bit Windows 8/8.1 and Android tablets, followed by Willow Trail chipset in the fourth quarter. Based on the even newer 14nm Goldmont architecture, supporting Windows and Android slates.
But don't worry Intel has something for prospective smartphone buyers as well. The Merrifield platform for smartphones will launch in Q1 2014, while Moorefield will make its way in Q3. Both are based on a 22nm process.
