Lenovo has finally launched the Hasselblad made True Zoom camera mod which adds 10X optical zoom to your Moto Z, Moto Z Force and the recently announced Moto Z Play.
The camera Mod has a 12MP 1/2.3-inch sensor with 1.55 micron pixel size which 10X optical zoom over a range of f/3.5 to f/6.5 aperture. So you would need to some good lighting to get those zoomed out shots.
There are two microphones using which it can record its own audio without depending on your smartphone. A bright Xenon flash has been added as well along a physical shutter button and zoom control. Hasselblad has also added a grip to the side, similar to point and shoot cameras.
Even though the camera mod is quite thick at about 15.1mm at its thickest point (weighing in at 145 grams), it doesn't have a battery built-in and uses your Moto Z's battery. But it connects over WiFi and you will get 2 years unlimited storage on Google Photos to save your united RAW images. There's just 1080p video recording with Electronic Image Stabilization while you have OIS for photos.
The Hasselblad True Zoom Moto Mod has been priced at $299 (about Rs. 20,000) and will be available in September. In Europe it would be sold for 299 Euros. In the US, Motorola.com will be offering the camera mod for $299 starting September 8th on pre-order. Apart from Optical Zoom, the True Zoom mod doesn't offer much and the $250 - $300 price point is a bit hard to swallow.
