Google has launched its latest flagship 5G smartphones the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro at its fall launch event, as they promised. The Pixel 6 has a 6.4-inch FHD+ OLED display with a 90Hz refresh rate, while the Pixel 6 Pro has a 6.7-inch Quad HD+ OLED display with a 120Hz variable refresh rate, and both comes with Corning Gorilla Glass Victus protection. The Pixel 6 Pro also has a Gorilla Glass Vicus protection on the back, while the Pixel 6 has Gorilla Glass 6 protection. Both phones support IP68 ratings for dust and water resistance.
These phones are run on the Google Tensor processor with 5G SA/NSA support, up to 12GB LPDDR5 RAM, 256GB UFS 3.1 storage and work on the latest Android 12. Google also confirmed that starting with Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro will receive security updates for at least 5 years, but OS updates are at 3 years.
The Google Tensor processor is built on the 5nm architecture and has 8-cores where 2 ARM Cortex-X1 cores clocked at 2.8GHz, 4 Cortex-A55 cores clocked at 1.8 GHz, 2 Cortex-A76 cores clocked at 2.25 GHz, and has a Mali-G78 MP20 GPU. Google said that this co-designed the Tensor SoC with Google Research that allowed them to build an AI/ML platform. It also highlighted some of the experiences that leverage machine learning like Face Unblur, Motion Mode, Speech enhancement mode for videos, HDRnet for videos, etc.
The Tensor chip also includes the Tensor security core, which is a new CPU-based subsystem that works with the Titan M2 security chip to protect user data. Google also said that the Google Assistant uses the most accurate Automatic Speech Recognition (ASR) in the world released by the company, and all of these consume low power, as per the company.
Both these phones have a new 50-megapixel primary rear camera with a Samsung GN1 sensor to capture more color, more detail, and 150% more light than the previous model, along with a 12-megapixel ultrawide camera. While the Pixel 6 Pro also has a 48MP telephoto lens with 4x optical zoom and up to 20x Super Res Zoom. It also comes with Google Tensor’s custom image processor and built-in computational photography with features like Night Sight, Portrait Mode, Magic Eraser, and Faces Unblur, which can deblur a face to make it sharper.
Google already confirmed that the Pixel 6 will come with an aluminum frame with a matte finish and the Pixel 6 Pro comes with a polished aluminum frame. The Pixel 6 is powered by a 4614mAh battery and the 6 Pro model has a 5000mAh battery, which is the biggest battery on a Pixel phone. According to Google, Pixel 6 Pro will last for more than 24 hours, even on 5G. The phones support 30W wired charging that can charge Pixel 6 Pro’s battery up to 50% in just 30 minutes. Google also sells Qi-certified Google Pixel Stand (2nd gen) wireless charging that supports up to 21W charging for the Pixel 6 and up to 23W charging for the Pixel 6 Pro.

The Pixel 6 comes in Stormy Black, Kinda Coral, and Sorta Seafoam colors, and the Pixel 6 Pro comes in Stormy Black, Sorta Sunny, and Cloudy White colors. These are will be available from October 28th on stores and major U.S. carriers, Pre-order has started from today. It will also be available in Canada, Australia, Japan, France, Germany, Taiwan, and the United Kingdom, but No details about the India launch yet.
