We didn't see this coming! The next version of Android is going to be called KitKat with the version number as Android 4.4 and not Key Lime Pie as we've been hearing for quite some time. Sundar Pichai also announced that Android has surpassed 1 Billion activations till date and is still growing. That's no mean feat.
As for the name KitKat, yes its the same name as the wafer based chocolate from Nestle. Google and Nestle have entered in a deal together to cross promote their respective brands for an undisclosed amount. Nestle has already begun promoting the next version of Android through its KitKat chocolate bars where if someone finds a bar with android logo emblazoned on it, they'll get Play Store credits or Nexus 7's for free. Yes, its not a joke.
To make things official Google has setup the Android KitKat page which states that the company's goal is to make an amazing Android experience available to everyone. Android hasn't yet reached its peak, and with Google's support and vision we can see an even bigger surge in numbers. With the recent acquisition on WIMM labs which manufacture smartwatches, it wouldn't be too far fetched to assume that a KitKat running smartwatch is already in the world at Android HQ. Nevertheless, for even sweeter times to come, here's to Android KitKat.
