Delhi Government today launched a helpline for public to register complaints against taxi aggregators on surge pricing. If you hail an Uber or OLA and they show an extra charge in the name of surge pricing, you can report to 011-42400400 and the government will take stringent action against them.
Delhi Transport Minister, Gopal Rai tweeting the following:
If any taxi is overcharging anyone on the name of surge pricing then please call and register complaints on 011-42400400. We will take stern action.
In response to several questions on surge pricing and his government's inaction on it, Arvind Kejriwal too took to twitter to remind taxi aggregators that surge pricing is not allowed under law and if found guilty their permits will be cancelled and licences of their drivers seized.
During the odd-even rule implementation between April 15th-30th, both Uber and OLA had withdrawn surge pricing for their cabs. But as soon as phase 2 of odd-even was Uber, customers saw the return on surge pricing, where fares are raised due to higher demand.
Lets hope the stern just doesn't revolve around tweets or public appearances, and we something concrete to end this monopoly.
