Asus has just unveiled the ZenWatch 3 Android Wear smartwatch with a round display at IFA 2016 in Berlin. This is the first round watch from the company which is quite a change from the rectangular curved display options we have seen before.
The round metal case of the ZenWatch 3 is made from jewellery-grade 316L stainless steel and is still less than 10mm in thickness. The display is surrounded by a rose gold metal ring for all the three color options - gunmetal, rose gold and silver. The metal accent is carried to the two buttons and the crown in middle.
In terms of hardware specifications, the ZenWatch 3 is powered by Snapdragon Wear 2100 processor that was announced earlier this year coupled with 512MB RAM, 4GB internal storage. The circular AMOLED display measures in at 1.39-inch with a resolution of 400×400 pixels (287 PPI pixel density). There’s also IP67 water resistance on offer and HyperCharge technology which can charge the watch up to 60 percent in just 15 minutes. Asus is promising 2 days of battery-life and you can also buy an additional battery pack for 40% more capacity.
On the software front you have Android Wear running the show. You will also get 50 watchfaces available for the smartwatch which can be customized with weather, battery, notification widgets. There is a FaceDesigner app too which lets you create custom watch faces. Fitness tracking also comes built-in and it track running, steps, push ups and more but there is no heart-rate sensor here.
The Asus ZenWatch 3 starts at 229 Euros ($254 / Rs. 17000) and it will be available in October.
