Asus has launched six new Zenfone smartphones at Computex 2017. The new range consists of the Zenfone 4, Zenfone 4 Pro, Zenfone 4 Max, Zenfone 4 Max Pro, Zenfone 4 Selfie and Zenfone 4 Selfie Pro. These boast of improved cameras, better performance, and sleeker design.
Zenfone 4
Asus has gone with a 5.5-inch 1080p IPS LCD display for the Zenfone 4 covered by Gorilla Glass on the front and an aluminum frame to hold it together. You can get the device with either the newly minted Snapdragon 660 or Snapdragon 630 processor, depending on the variant available in your region. Based on that, you will get either 6GB or 4GB RAM. It's great to see that the base internal storage is 64GB throughout the new series.
On the back, the phone packs a dual camera system consisting of a 12-megapixel f/1.8 camera with PDAF and OIS coupled with a wide-angle 8-megapixel 12mm secondary camera. There's 4K video recording on offer as well. In the front, you get an 8-megapixel camera with f/2.0 aperture.
Connectivity options include dual-SIM support, WiFi ac, USB Type-C with fast charging for the 3300 mAh battery along with NFC. There are dual Stereo speakers available on the Zenfone 4 as well and it will be available in Moonlight White, Mint Green, and Midnight Black color options.
Zenfone 4 Pro
This is the new Asus flagship, packing a 5.5-inch 1080p display but of the AMOLED variety. The phone has an aluminum frame sandwiched between two layers of Gorilla Glass. It runs on the Snapdragon 835 octa-core processor with 6GB RAM, and you get a choice of 64GB or 128GB internal storage.
This too is a dual-camera smartphone, packing a 12-megapixel f/1.7 aperture main lens with OIS, PDAF and laser autofocus. Then there's the secondary camera with a 16-megapixel sensor which uses a 50mm telephoto lens, giving the phone a 2X lossless optical zoom. Along with the fingerprint sensor, capacitive buttons, you also find an 8-megapixel selfie camera in the front.
Dual-stereo speakers find a way on the Zenfone 4 Pro as well, along with a larger 3600 mAh battery with fast charging support. Thankfully the headphone jack has been retained and then there's the USB Type-C port for data syncing and charging. The Zenfone 4 Pro will come in Moonlight White and Pure Black color options.
Zenfone 4 Max
You may have noticed a theme by now, similar to the other Zenfone 4 devices, the Zenfone 4 Max too comes with a 5.5-inch display, this time its IPS LCD. This phone packs entry-level specs with a Snapdragon 430 or 425 based on the variant you get paired with 2GB, 3GB, and 4GB RAM. You will get 16GB, 32GB or 64GB internal storage which is expandable.
Asus is going all out on dual cameras with the new series and the Zenfone 4 Max is no exception. You get dual 13MP rear cameras here with dual-LED flash. In the front, you get you get an 8-megapixel camera.
Given this is a Max series smartphone, there's a massive 5000 mAh battery available here. You also get a fingerprint sensor, dual-SIM support but a micro-USB port for charging. The Zenfone 4 Max will be available in Black, Sunlight Gold, and Rose Pink color options.
Zenfone 4 Max Pro
The Zenfone 4 Max Pro has similar specs and the Zenfone 4 Max but with different memory options and cameras. The Zenfone 4 Max Pro gets a 16-megapixel primary camera, along with a 120-degree wide-angle lens secondary camera and a 16-megapixel front camera, double the resolution of the Max.
You can get the Max Pro with 2GB or 3GB RAM and 32GB internal storage. Connectivity options are similar to other Zenfones with WiFi, Dual-SIM support, Bluetooth but no NFC.
Zenfone 4 Selfie
The Zenone 4 Selfie also has a 5.5-inch 1080p IPS LCD display with 2.5D curved glass. It is powered by a Snapdragon 430 octa-core processor with 4GB RAM and 64GB internal storage.
There's a single 16MP rear camera but this phone is all about the selfies. You have a 20-megapixel main camera with f/2.0 aperture along with an 8-megapixel secondary camera accompanying it. There's an LED flash in the front as well.
It gets a 3000 mAh battery which charges over micro-USB, dual-SIM support, a fingerprint sensor. It will come in a variety of colors including Black, Gold, Pink and Mint Green.
Zenfone 4 Selfie Pro
The Zenfone 4 Selfie Pro gets an upgraded AMOLED 5.5-inch full-HD display along with the super power-efficient Snapdragon 625 processor. You can choose from two variants, one with 3GB or 4GB RAM and both come with 64GB onboard storage.
There is a 12-megapixel rear camera here with dual-pixel autofocus, similar to the Galaxy S8 using the Sony IMX362 sensor. In the front, you have the same 20MP + 8MP dual camera setup along with an LED flash.
Thanks to SD625 you also get 4K video recording but there is no Optical Image Stabilization on offer. But you do get a fingerprint sensor, dual-SIM support, and a 3000 mAh battery which uses a microUSB port for charging. It will also be available in a wide range of colors, including black, red, and gold.
At present there is no word on the pricing of these phones and exact specifications will depend on the region of launch.
