Apple is preparing to introduce its first M4 Macs and new lower-end iPads in an event set for the next few weeks, according to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman. This aligns with Apple's usual fall release schedule.
MacBook Pro Updates -
Apple is expected to reveal updated 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro models featuring M4, M4 Pro, and M4 Max chips. However, no major design changes are anticipated this year. More significant updates, such as an OLED display and slimmer design, are rumoured for 2026. The new MacBook Pro lineup will likely include:
- J604 - Entry-level 14-inch MacBook Pro with the M4 chip.
- J614 and J616 - High-end 14-inch and 16-inch models featuring advanced M4 chip options.
iMac Update -
The iMac is also slated for an upgrade with the M4 chip, under the codename J623. This refresh may include transitioning the Magic Keyboard, Magic Mouse, and Magic Trackpad to USB-C from Lightning.
Mac mini Revamp -
Apple is expected to refresh the Mac mini with M4 and M4 Pro chips. The new version, codenamed J773, will be smaller—nearly the size of an Apple TV—and will omit USB-A ports.
iPad Mini -
The next-generation iPad mini is expected to come with a faster chip, improved front and rear cameras, a fix for "jelly scrolling," and support for Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.3. Mass production is anticipated to start in the second half of 2024.
Entry-Level iPad -
New lower-end iPads, potentially including the iPad 11, are also expected. While details are limited, these will be part of the upcoming announcements.
Future Product Launches -
According to Gurman, most of the new Macs are already shipping, with models like the higher-end MacBook Pros and M4 Pro Mac mini scheduled for later releases. M4 MacBook Airs are anticipated in early 2025, followed by a new Mac Studio in mid-2025, and a Mac Pro by the end of 2025.
