Apple iPhone X is now official. After months of leaks, here are the details. The iPhone X packs a 5.8-inch (2436x1125 Pixels) OLED Super Retina display, 458 PPI highest ever on an iPhone. The display supports both HDR standards, Dolby Vision and HDR10 along with support for 3D Touch.
The fingerprint sensor or TouchID has given way to FaceID. The facial recognition technology is powered by Apple's new Neural Engine inside the A11 Bionic chipset along with FaceID depth sensor, IR sensor along with the front camera at the top of the display. It unlocks the phone by just looking at it. According to Apple, it works in low light as well and even when you change your look or wear glasses.
The iPhone X has glass both on the front and back, sandwiched in between is surgical grade stainless steel on all sides to provide strength. It is water-resistant as well and will be available in Space Gray and silver color options. It has stereo speakers as well.
iOS 11 for the new iPhone has more gestures to control the interface. You can now swipe from the bottom to unlock the phone. To bring up multitasking swipe up from the bottom and hold for a second. The control center can be brought up by swiping from the top right corner. This is something people would have to get used to. We have seen swipe based interactions on several Android smartphones, and they have generally given way to more established interfaces.
The iPhone X has dual 12-megapixel cameras, along with dual optical image stabilization. The main 12MP sensor has a f/1.8 aperture lens while the telephoto lens uses a faster f/2.4 aperture. In between the two cameras, you will find a quad-LED true tone flash.
This is powered by the same A11 chipset as the iPhone 8. It has two high-performance cores and four high-efficiency cores for normal tasks along with Apple's first in-house GPU. Connectivity options include LTE-Advanced (LTE-A) as well as Bluetooth 5.0. Wireless charging is also present on the iPhone X thanks to its glass back and it supports only the Qi wireless charging standard.
The iPhone X is priced at $999 for the 64GB storage variant, and there is a 256GB option available as well. Pre-orders start on October 27th, shipping begins on November 3rd.
