Apple today announced the iPad Pro, a 12.9-inch monster of a tablet starting at $799. Even with that massive display Apple was able to make the tablet quite thin at 6.9mm weighing in at 1.57 pounds (about 712 grams). It runs on the new Apple A9x processor which is 1.8x faster than the A8x on the iPad Air.
The iPad Pro is a powerhouse, it can render three 4K streams at a given time, run AutoCAD at 60fps according to Apple. Moreover, even with that large display, the company promises 10-hour battery life. It has a four speaker system which orients itself based on how you hold the tablet, although you won't be keeping it in your hands for long. Its massive, just look at the image above.
Apple also announced the Apple Pencil, for pen-input on the iPad Pro. The Apple Pencil alongwith the pressure sensitive display on the Apple iPad Pro makes for a great productivity tool for artists and designers. Microsoft was also present at the event to showcase its Office productivity suite of apps alongwith the split-screen multitasking functionality on the new iPad Pro.
You can also get a Smart Keyboard cover for the iPad Pro, which uses the new Key switches of the MacBook. The Smart Keyboard also doubles up as the cover for the new iPad.
Summing up the specs, the 12.9-inch retina display on the new iPad Pro has a resolution of 2732x2048 pixels at 264 PPI. You have a 8MP iSight camera at the back alongwith a Facetime HD camera in the front on the iPad Pro. It also comes with TouchID fingerprint sensor, choices of storage include 32GB or 128GB. You also get optional 4G LTE support, dual-band WiFi ac MIMO, Bluetooth 4.0.
The new Apple iPad Pro comes in Silver, Space Gray and Gold finishes starting at $799 with 32GB storage, $949 for 128GB. Now just brace yourself, $1079 for the 128GB LTE variant. If you have that much cash lying around, the iPad Pro alongwith its accessories will be available in November. Talking about the accessories the Smart Keyboard comes in at $169 while the Apple Pencil is priced at $99.
