Apple is reportedly developing a foldable iPhone, potentially launching as early as 2026, according to The Information. The device is expected to feature a clamshell design similar to the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip. Earlier this year, The Information noted that Apple was working on two folding iPhone prototypes. The company now seems to have chosen a design, internally referred to as “V68,” indicating it is in the development phase with suppliers.
The report suggests that Apple’s foldable iPhone will likely feature a horizontal fold, similar to the Galaxy Z Flip, with Asian suppliers already engaged in component production. This marks significant progress despite previous challenges, such as eliminating visible creases.
This information aligns with a recent DigiTimes report on Apple’s foldable phone plans. Additionally, Apple may be developing a MacBook-like foldable device, expected to ship in 2026, with a folding screen supplied by Samsung Display. The first foldable iPhone is anticipated to have dimensions similar to current iPhones when unfolded.
However, the foldable iPhone may be delayed until 2027 if it fails to meet Apple’s quality standards. Overall, a release is still a few years away, with no imminent launch expected.
