Acer has finally announced the Iconia A1 which will be a direct competitor to the iPad Mini and the Nexus 7. The Acer Iconia A1 is powered by a quad-core MediaTek processor and runs Android 4.2 Jelly Bean. The tablet is quite like the iPad Mini in terms of its display, it has the same 1024 x 768 pixels, 4:3 aspect ratio display and it looks a bit similar too. But the comparison ends there.

Acer has packed some cool stuff in its new Iconia A1. There are these two gestures for the A1 which are part of Acer's "Touch" theme. With the tablet off, if you press five fingers onto the screen the tablet wakes up and automatically opens any app of your choosing. You can also tap both your thumbs on the screen to wake up the tablet and launch another app. Both of the gestures actually work and are not just gimmicks although the five finger touch is a bit out there.
The Acer Iconia A1 is available at $169 for the 8GB model and 16GB for $199. The Iconia A1 will be available in June.
