Samsung is staying true to its promise of "Make for India" with the Galaxy J2. The new budget handset from Samsung was launched in Bangalore a couple of days ago. Its the fourth smartphone in the J series, which includes the Galaxy J1, Galaxy J5 and Galaxy J7.
The J2 ups the specs from the previous-generation with a 4.7-inch qHD (960x540 Pixels) Super AMOLED display, Exynos 3475 quad-core chip running at 1.3GHz with 1GB RAM. You will also get a 5MP rear camera and a 2MP front camera here coupled with a 2000 mAh battery. The best part is Samsung is not packing Android 5.1 Lollipop right out of the box on this one just like the Galaxy J5 and J7.

The Galaxy J2 has been developed at Samsung's R&D facilities in India. According to the company this has helped shape the OS and UI elements to meet local needs. Leading to new features like Ultra Data Saving Mode which saves up to 50% of your data plan through compression and frees upto 11% more RAM, alongwith better battery-life with twice the standby time. We have already seen data saving through Opera Max which comes integrated with the Galaxy J2.
Coming to pricing and availability, the Galaxy J2 will be available starting September 21 for a price tag of Rs. 8490. After the effective pricing strategy on the Galaxy J5 and Galaxy J7, Samsung has again floundered with the Galaxy J2. It is over-priced given the specs, and there are far better options available in this price-segment with higher-resolution displays, better build, design, cameras and performance.
